about

Twin Cities-based guitarist Joel Shapira spent his twenties in NYC taking in as much of the jazz culture as he could. This included spending time with guitarist Jack DeSalvo, absorbing what would meld with his own concepts before becoming one of the most recognized jazz guitarists in the Minneapolis-St.Paul area. Shapira and DeSalvo would reunite to record the critically acclaimed duo album Inherence for Unseen Rain later recording a quartet date for Woodshedd that featured the present drummer Tom Cabrera, Westbury Converge. Here, the quartet with Cabrera and the guitarists is rounded out by double-bassist Mark Hagan. Playing a collection of swinging jazz as well as originals by DeSalvo, including two distinct takes of Cydonia. Especially delightful for guitar aficionados.
